University of Michigan Big House
The University of Michigan (UM) sought to replace the 79-year old concrete bowl of Michigan Stadium, the home to their Wolverine football team. UM wanted a new bowl that would provide a large impact on durability and impermeability, while providing a small impact on the environment.
To achieve the goals of enhanced performance and sustainability, UM designers chose TerCem, a product within the Envirocore Cements portfolio of cements.
The UM TerCem is an ASTM C595 Type IT containing 70% Alpena Plant Type I/II cement, 25% South Chicago slag cement, and 5% silica fume.
Utilizing these supplemental cementitious materials (SCMs) significantly reduces waste, energy use and greenhouse gases while conserving natural resources.
At Michigan Stadium, one ton of TerCem equals 30 percent less clinker per ton of conventional cement.
